How do I change my password or my email address?

Log in and tap your profile picture at the top right, then Settings. There you will find the tabs E-Mail and Password.

When you change your email address we send a confirmation link to the new one. It is valid for 24 hours . You can request a new one at any time by entering the address again. Only the most recently requested link works.

I have forgotten my password. What can I do?

It happens to everyone. Just use forgot password: enter your username or email address and we will send you a link to set a new password.

No mail? Check your spam folder first. If nothing arrives there either, you may no longer have access to the address on file. In that case our Support weiter.

I can no longer access my email address. What now?

Get in touch with our Supportcan help. Once we have verified you, we change your account details by hand. Please do not create a second account; duplicate accounts are not allowed on Schambereich.

How do I delete my account?

Your account is yours. Under Settings you can delete it yourself at any time, without asking support. After that you have 30 days to change your mind: during that period you can restore the account through “forgot password”. Afterwards it is removed for good.

How safe is an account on Schambereich?

We store your credentials to current standards, your password only as a hash. But the biggest lever is yours: your password.

A good password
  • is at least 8 characters long, preferably more
  • mixes upper and lower case, digits and special characters
  • contains no personal details and no whole words
  • is used on one single website

The last point matters most: if any site where you use the same password is breached, every account with that password is open.

Nobody remembers dozens of good passwords. A password manager does it for you: it generates and stores complex passwords, and you only remember one master password. Free and open source options include KeePassXC and Bitwarden.

Why can I not log in to the forum?

The forum has its own account; you register there separately. Before the relaunch there was only the forum account, but the main Schambereich site now stands on its own. Since the forum moved into the Community you no longer need a separate account there: link your forum account to your Schambereich account.

Why does my old account have to be migrated?

Accounts from before the relaunch need a one-off migration: to protect our members the requirements have been raised since then, some old usernames are no longer allowed, and a new, stronger password has to be set.

How are the audio versions made?

Audio versions are machine-generated: an AI voice reads the text, nobody records it in a studio. The voices come from our provider's voice library and are modelled on professional speakers who made their voices available there. The player and the file itself note that a recording is machine-generated. Members hear the full recording, guests a sample of about one minute. Authors may object to their stories being voiced at any time, in which case the recording is deleted.

What is the Community, and what happens to the forum?

The Community is the forum moved into Schambereich: the same areas (Café Eros, Ich bin neu hier, Vorschläge & Kritik), every old topic and post, plus a mailbox for private messages. One account for everything. After the move the old forum accepts nothing new and stays reachable for a while only to read old messages.

How do I link my forum account?

Under Community › Link forum account you enter your forum password once or have a code sent to your forum address. After that your old posts stand under your name, your topic subscriptions continue, empty profile fields are filled from the forum (undone with one click), and your private messages move into the mailbox. Without linking, the old posts keep the forum name, just without a connection to you.

What do the ranks and "Forum seit" mean?

The rank comes from your posts and the likes you received here: Neu dabei, Mitglied (from 10 posts or 25 likes), Stammgast (from 100 or 200), Urgestein (from 1,000 or 2,000). Team and Admin mark the moderation. "Forum seit 2012" shows since when someone was in the old forum; it appears only after linking.

What are ♥, Mutig and Danke?

Three reactions on a post, once per person, a second tap takes it back. ♥ means "like", Mutig honours that someone dared something, Danke is for help and good answers. Likes from the old forum count as ♥. There is no notification for reactions, only the counter.

What does "Neu" mean, and what does "Alles als gelesen markieren" do?

"Neu" marks topics with activity since your last visit, including topics you never opened. The title leads straight to the first unread post. "Alles als gelesen markieren" sets the mark to now; after that only what comes from now on is new.

How do I put pictures, stories or surveys into a post?

Through "Einfügen" in the editor: your own pictures, stories and surveys from a list (with search), any public Schambereich link, or a new picture upload. An upload goes through the same check as every picture on the site. With "nur in der Diskussion zeigen" it stays out of the feed and the categories but is public by its address. Every link becomes a card in the post.

What are the tags on topics for?

Up to five keywords per topic, with suggestions while typing. A tap on a tag shows every topic with it, and similar topics appear under a topic through shared tags. Whoever starts a topic can change its tags later.

Who may send me messages?

You set that under "Receiving and blocking", via the gear in the mailbox or the account hub. The default is "people I follow": whoever you follow or accepted as a contact reaches you directly; everyone else lands in the "Requests" tab, and you decide whether to accept, decline or block. Declining tells them nothing. "Everyone" opens the mailbox to every member, "Nobody" closes it entirely, requests included. Replies in existing conversations continue unless you block. The team always reaches you, for example with questions; such messages carry the "Team" mark. New accounts can reply but start a conversation only once confirmed.

Why do I not see a picture in a message right away?

Every picture in a private message is checked automatically for the age of the people shown before delivery; in doubt a person from the team looks at it, nobody else. Until then it says "Bild wird geprüft". The text arrives at once. The team reads private messages only when they are reported.

How do I block or report someone?

In the conversation under "Mehr" or right in a request: blocking ends all messaging in both directions, the list of blocked members sits under "Receiving and blocking" (gear in the mailbox). Reporting is possible on every message and post; for a reported message the team sees only that one and the messages right before and after it.

Can I back up my messages, and what about the old forum messages?

Under "Receiving and blocking" (gear in the mailbox) you download all conversations as a text file. Old forum messages move into the mailbox when you link; without linking you can still read them in the old forum for three months after the move, then it is switched off.
