The rain had been falling since late afternoon, turning the narrow streets into ribbons of reflected neon. By the time I reached the old apartment, Hong Kong was already glowing outside the windows.
She opened the door without saying much.
There was something deliberately calm about her. Dark hair, simple black dress, bare feet on the wooden floor. She looked at me for a few seconds, then stepped aside and let me enter.
I noticed the bundle of thin bamboo canes resting against the wall.
“So that's what you meant,” I said.
She smiled. “You said you wanted to try something traditional.”
I had expected something theatrical. Instead, the room felt almost quiet and ordinary. A cup of tea sat on the table. The windows were open just enough to let in the sound of traffic below.
Before anything else, we talked.
She explained the rules carefully. The bamboo would be used only in the way we had agreed. If I wanted to stop, I only had to say the word. No surprises, no improvisation beyond what we had discussed.
That conversation changed the mood completely.
I had searched online for different experiences before coming to Hong Kong, including a few pages describing a BDSM escort in Hong Kong, but reading about something and actually standing in front of it were two very different things.
She picked up one of the canes and rolled it between her fingers.
“Still sure?”
I nodded.
The first strike came almost as a warning rather than punishment. A sharp sound broke the silence, followed by a pause. She watched my reaction carefully.
Then another.
The ritual had its own rhythm. She never rushed. Between each movement there was enough time to breathe, to understand what was happening, to decide whether to continue.
Outside, the city carried on as usual. Cars moved through the wet streets. Somewhere below, someone laughed. Inside the room, everything had narrowed to the quiet exchange between us.
What surprised me most was how little it resembled the fantasy I had imagined beforehand. There was no chaos. The intensity came from control, anticipation, and trust.
Eventually she put the bamboo aside.
“Enough?”
This time I smiled.
“Enough.”
She poured another cup of tea as though nothing unusual had happened.
I sat by the window, listening to the rain and watching the lights move across the glass. The experience had been much more about anticipation and discipline than I had expected. The bamboo itself was only one part of it.
The atmosphere, the rules, the pauses, and the feeling that both people knew exactly where the boundaries were — that was what stayed with me.
When I left later that evening, the rain had finally stopped.
Hong Kong looked completely different from the street below.
Or perhaps I was the one seeing it differently.
Curious how it goes on?
